Safeguarding across the Curriculum
At St Peter’s, safeguarding is central to all we do. Rooted in our Mustard Seed Vision and Christian values, we ensure all pupils feel safe, valued and respected, creating a strong sense of belonging.
Safeguarding is taught explicitly through our curriculum. Our NHS-backed My Happy Mind and My Happy Mind + programmes develop emotional wellbeing and resilience from the Early Years onwards. Computing and E-safety lessons, alongside half-termly sessions led by E-safety ambassadors, teach pupils how to stay safe online. In Key Stage 2, pupils deepen their understanding through projects such as BREE, Project Chameleon and CO₂ workshops, building critical thinking and awareness of risk.
Pupils also learn through real-life experiences, including visits from PCSOs, magistrates and other professionals. Road safety, Mini Medics and health programmes further support pupils in keeping themselves and others safe. Collective Worship strengthens safeguarding through regular reflection on values and responsibility. Weekly Picture News and our school mission promote British values and positive choices, while events such as Multi-Faith Week and Courageous Advocacy Week develop respect and understanding.
Pupil leadership is strong, with ambassadors promoting safety and wellbeing across school. Our Mental Health Mentor supports pupils and families, alongside close work with external agencies. Through this approach, pupils develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to stay safe and make informed choices in modern Britain.
